Yes I may be biased, but after spending the morning trawling through our Kiama Tourism shoots, I’m 99.99% convinced Kiama is the most funkadelic place to live or go on holiday!

Paul and I have been very lucky to have been commissioned for a number of commercial photo shoots by Kiama Tourism over the last couple of years. Here is a just a small selection of the images we’ve added to their image library.

We are so privileged to live where we do and even more so when we get to shoot a beautiful destination wedding such as this right in our doorstep in Kiama.

This newly married pair jetted off to Madagascar shortly after their wedding, the first of several months of time out exploring exotic destinations far and wide. I can’t think of a better way to kick off a lifetime together!

A gorgeous couple that drove down from Canberra to enjoy an afternoon together on the beach!

A picture perfect, if a little blustery, afternoon in Gerringong. We first met under a beautiful fig tree at the Crooked River Winery, a favourite haunt for these two, and then jumped in the car on a misson to find a little sun trap away from the gale force winds on Werri Beach; which luckily we found…thank you mother nature for glorious steep wind breaking cliffs!

This beautiful couple , newly engaged after being together for years, wanted me to to document this time in their lives, to capture a genuine moment between the two of them  and their delightful Cavoodle dog. To have an image that could be their own little window back in time, always to this peaceful afternoon spent drinking red wine with their love, in the long grass, under a beautiful fig tree, on a windy sunshiny day.

A wonderfully relaxed and easy going wedding followed by a fabulous party with friends and family at the Coogee Surf Lifesaving Club! So delighted to have been there to capture the afternoon for these guys : )

I loved certain stages in both my pregnancies and that magical time in the early weeks of my third trimester, when I had a large bountiful belly but before the baby got too big to be comfortable, was one of my favourites.  I enjoyed the way strangers would smile at me as I walked the streets with my first baby in utero, as if there was a secret language of all parents everywhere that I’d yet to be privy too. These smiles were warm and welcoming… an acknowledgement of my joyful innocence of all the parenting experiences that were soon to be ours…soon I would be joining their club!

These two lovely folks were so very warm and relaxed in front of the camera. They wanted to document this time before their first born arrives and i’m delighted to have captured their close relationship to each other before two becomes three!

The beautiful Rana Rankin, and her lovely family, came to our rescue this week when I put a shout-out for models to shoot a camping scene as part of our  Tourism Shellharbour project (hence the Shellharbour logo as the watermark on these images!).

The afternoon was full of many things I love: building an campfire fire, scouting out the best hammock tree, hanging out with gorgeous fun kids, but most of all capturing a beautiful family enjoying spending time with each other. Rana, I’m so thankful our universes aligned this week! Your children are a credit to you guys.

I had to rush off at the end of the shoot to pick up the kids from daycare… I was one of the last mum to stumble in with grass all over my back and the smell of campfire permeating the air all around me, a silly grin on my face. Thankfully the teachers know me as a photographer and twigged i’d been on a shoot : )

Paul and I have been working more and more together on these kind of projects so this post is a collection of both our images. He totally rules BTW!

It has always surprised me how quiet the family photography business gets over the winter season. It is generally welcomed in the industry as an opportunity for worn out photographers to catch up on office paperwork, shoot personal projects, spend time with their families and take a well earn holiday.

That is all well and good but sometimes I just want to stamp my feet a little. I wish more clients wanted to schedule their shoots in the cooler weather… it is not like our antipodean winter is really that cold, snowy or even that frosty here on the coast. In fact today Kiama had a top temperature of 16 degrees with the most glorious blue sky you have ever seen. I spent the first 23 years of my life growing up in England and today would have been considered the finest of summer days…shorts and t-shirts and a picnic in the park kind of day!

But, the thing that makes me most miffed about the lack of sessions in winter is the truly magical winter light. So soft and so low…so perfect for my style of shooting. The sun sets so much earlier so you can have an afternoon session that wraps up a 4.30pm and get the most amazing light. In the summer you have to wait until past 7 o’clock for this perfect light so with my younger clients it is usually not possible!

Still need convincing… here are a bunch more reasons:

  • cosy and warm wooly jumpers with lots of wonderful texture
  • colourful scarves
  • cute knitted beanies
  • pink cheeks
  • warm hugs
  • brilliant blue skies
  • deserted beaches
  • but forget all that, did I mention the magical winter light??

So just to encourage you all from your warm little nests, here is an offer too good to refuse: 50% off your session fee...only $90 till the end of August 2012! (for sessions in the local Kiama area (from Wollongong to Nowra, South Coast NSW)
